Sculptor at first and designer
Born in Algiers in 1961, Antoine Brac de la Perrière has been living in Lyon since 1995. A globe trotter of creation, he first started in Belgium, where he attended the cabinetmaking / sculpture section classes within the prestigious Institution Saint Luc (Tournai).
Later on, he entered the Paris Art School (the Charpentier workshop), from which he graduated in Sculpture in December 1986. Before taking off to the United States, this forms and materials lover passes with distinction the Master Degree of Plastic Arts.
A Fulbright scholarship holder, he follows the Program at Pratt Institute of New York from 1987 to 1988. He then moves on to a Master of Fine Arts in San Francisco from 1988 to 1989. In December 2004, he is awarded the Griffe Lyonnaise prize. Such is the route that explains how Antoine, through the art of cabinet-making, makes us reach the superior stage of imagination, beyond feelings, and up to the surrealistic universe of a whale table, of a crab stool or of a tauromachi chest.
His designs emanate from meetings, as well as needs and materials, while continuously questioning objects and spaces in the expression of an ascesis, the purified search for the simple, well-balanced gesture of experience. His work freely adapts wood, textile, metal or glass, mixing both ancestral and contemporary techniques, for better fulfilling the requirements of the projects. The purpose is to create a signed work that perfectly matches its environment, whether private or professional.
From his Rue du B'uf workshop in the old part of town, Antoine Brac de la Perrière and his team share with their customers a passion for spaces, for purified lines and noble materials. After the first fundamental step of attentive listening, the functional aestheticism of a piece of furniture is worked up with rigour, in a logic of everlastingness. From imaginary to finishing, the object is guaranteed to live!
